Five Family Silhouettes & Miniature Portrait

A group of five silhouettes and a miniature portrait apparently from one family, all in matching frames. The images date from at least as early as 1785 and run to no later than 1850. The silhouettes include one of Mathilda Elder who married John Watkins on Nov. 28, 1785, a silhouette in an oval cut-out in a rectangular gilt wood frame. The silhouette is a pale sepia color on a cream backing. She is wearing a bonnet, and appears to be in her twenties. The next earliest image is a gentleman in an ornate frock coat, in an oval gilt wood frame. Then there is a larger oval silhouette of a man with a mephistophelian beard. He is wearing a coat with a very heavy collar. There are a pair of silhouettes of young men who appear to be brothers, clearly in their late teens or twenties, with high starched collars. Details have been added to both images, including details of hair, cravat pis, and a different textured collar. Both are in oval cut-outs in rectangular gilt wooden frames. Finally there is a miniature portrait, in pen and ink, showing a rather fierce looking young woman in a very high lace collar with earrings. Her dress appears to date from the 1830 period. Her hair is colored a dark auburn. She is in an oval cut-out in a rectangular gilt wood frame. All of the frames match, with an outer edge of laurel leaves, and an inner line of beads. Each of the rectangular frames has a flower in each corner of the frame. Size: Respectively, 5 1/4 by 4 1/2; 4 3/4 by 4 1/4; 5 1/2 by 4 3/4; two at 5 1/2 by 4 1/2; and finally 5 1/4 by 4 1/2 inches.
