General Anthony McAuliffe, a Presentation Jewelry Box with Medieval City on Lid
A large a jewelry box in wood with a medieval city, possibly Lubeck, pictured on the top. The sides are covered in maroon velvet. The bottom has four short, round legs. The inside is padded cloth with tiny seed pearls (possibly artificial) on it. Family tradition says that this was presented to General and Mrs. McAuliffe by the city depicted on it, but we cannot substantiate this. Count Puckler Gold Plated Flatware
A table setting of 12 forks, 12 knives with Henckel blades, and 12 dessert spoons, all by Sy & Wagner of Berlin, and marked with their beehive stamp. These are purported to have belonged to the family of Countess Puckler, the widow of the notorious Waffen SS commander, Carl-Friederich von Puckler-Burghauss. Accompanying the set is a note typed in red on a piece of cardboard explaining that these were obtained by the McNarneys from a friend, Miss Cavey, who obtained them from Countess Puckler. The spoons are engraved with a coronet of nine points over a script letter "B." According to the note this is for "Brandenburg," being the descendants of a morganatic marriage between Frederick Wilhem II Hohenzollern and a common woman who he created Countess Brandenburg.According to the note the silverware dates to around 1800. The coronet with 9 points definitely denotes a Graf (Count) It should also be noted that Sy & Wagner were not in operation until 1867..
Size: The 36 pieces are all contained in a cardboard box that is 12 1/2 by 10 by 2 inches. These do not have the hallmark of Sy& Wagner, therefore are assumed not to be silver.

Four Asian Knives of Various Ethnic Styles
Four small knives collected by the McNarneys on their travels: a small Indonesian kris of classic form, with garuda hilt, and blade with pamir finish, in a wooden sheath. This is very well shaped, but appears to be of relatively modern manufacture. The blade is slightly flamboyant, with a heavy coat of old oil on it. The grip has a white metal bolster. The ri-pandan (the widest part of the blade) does not quite fit into the top of the sheath. A small Nepalese kukri of tourist style with a lion's head on the pommel, but a nice blade with two shallow fullers. The sheath has a pocket containing the two traditional side knives. The black wooden grip is decorated with silver colored bands and nail heads. A small Afghan khanjar or jambiya dagger. The dagger is curved, double edged, and although small seems to be made for use. The blade has two narrow fullers, and is engraved, including a date, apparently 1937. The grip is made of stacked sections of bone and ebony with a brass ring in the middle. The sheath is covered with cloth from an old carpet. An Indonesian karambit knife of very nice shape and style, in a wooden sheath, with a pamir blade.
Size: The kris is 10 inches long overall, with a 7 inch blade. The kukri is 10 1/2 inches long overall, with a 6 inch blade. The khanjar is 9 inches long with a 4 3/4 inch blade. The karambit is is 6 1/2 inches long with a 4 inch blade.
Provenance: Estate of General Joseph McNarney.
