General Anthony McAuliffe, a Presentation Jewelry Box with Medieval City on Lid

A large a jewelry box in wood with a medieval city, possibly Lubeck, pictured on the top. The box is of gilded and velvet colored wood, with a framed and glassed medieval city map on top, framed heraldic coats of arms on two sides, and framed and highly illuminated alphabet letters on two sides. The sides are covered in maroon velvet. The bottom has four short, round legs. The inside is padded cloth with tiny seed pearls (possibly artificial) on it. Family tradition says that this was presented to General and Mrs. McAuliffe by the city depicted on it, but we cannot substantiate this. The coats of arms depict a double-headed eagle with a white shield with a red bend on its chest on a white field, above a red field with a three-towered castle on it. Provenance: Estate of General Anthony McAuliffe. Shipping within the continental U.S.: $60.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Provenance:General Anthony McAuliffe (1898-1975) then with direct family
