Painted Tea Chest, a Painted Jewelry Box, & a Painted Portfolio

Three painted wooden containers, possibly painted by the same artist: A small tea chest painted with floral designs and birds. It has a lock. The inside is black lacquered, and the tea containers are lead foil lined, as was typical in the 18th and 19th century. The lids have carved mother-of-pearl knobs. The chest rests on four round feet. A painted jewelry box with a rustic scene, probably of Italy painted on the lid. The scene includes a monastery by a lake, with people picnicking in the foreground. In the distance are snow-capped mountains. There are yew trees at the sides. The body of the box is painted with flowers and swags. The inside of the box is lacquered and has a pull-out tray with compartments for a variety of things. The box has a lock, and the small key is inside the box, along with a number of tiny screws and an envelope labeled "Tiny screws for repair of jewelry box." A painted portfolio with wooden covers and cloth pocket inside, the front being painted with flowers with an ornately painted border. The inside is cloth covered, and there are several blank paper pages, with the pocket inside the back cover. Both front and back have tiny mother-of-pearly rests to protect the painted surfaces when open. Size: The tea chest is 5 1/2 by 7 3/4 by 4 1/2 inches. The jewelry box is 3 by 10 by 7 1/2 inches. The portfolio is 12 by 9 by 1 inches. Provenance: Estate of General Joseph McNarney. Processing and shipping in the Continental United States is $50.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
