Herzberg German 16 Gauge Double Barreled Percussion Shotgun.

A Herzberg double barreled percussion shotgun, made in Herzberg, Germany. This was originally the Royal Hanoverian gun factory, founded by the king who was both King of Hanover, and King George II of England! This is a finely made sporting shotgun made about 1850and has mounts for sling swivels, in the German stalking tradition. The locks are finely engraved as are the hammers. The stock is nicely carved, with a carved cheek rest on the left hand side. The trigger guard is extended and curled to form a pistol grip. The lower ramrod pipe is fancifully cut to represent a stylized pineapple. The barrels have an elegant damascus twist on them. Size: 47 inches long overall, with 32 inch barrels. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.

Provenance:Goetz collection Fair Oaks California. Purchased from Pilot Hill Antique Shop.

Condition:

The metal is in very good condition with some surface rust in spots. The stock is cracked at the wrist, and shows some crude attempts at repair at the tang of the butt plate. The action works well, and this is a gun worthy of restoration.
