German Bavarian Royal Pioneer Battalion Stein Excellent Original

Outstanding pre-WWI German stein of the 1st Royal Bavarian Pioneer Battalion, named to Hans Bayert, whose service was from 1910 - 1912. This is a very attractive and interesting original stein, with a number of hand-painted details, and several makers' marks on the bottom. The center features a portrait of the Prince Regent Ludwig, the Colonel of the Regiment. Below that are two soldiers, one in full field gear wearing a shako, the other in peace time uniform with feldmutze shaking hands over an anchor and the battalion shoulder tab. Flanking them are pictures of the Battalion building a bridge, performing guard duty in the snow, repairing a bridge, and one showing soldiers of the Battalion crossing the bridge towards a German maiden. There is a small Star of David hanging from a tree in the last picture. The handle of the stein is smooth on the inside, and is topped by a pewter Bavarian crowned lion and shield, which is connected to the pewter lid, which features a soldier holding a shovel in his left hand, and resting his right hand on an anchor. The body of the stein has two roped borders decorated with gold paint, and the soldiers have hand decorated buttons and other details. Marks on the bottom include a rectangle topped by a cross and tree, the numbers 992 and 22, and the words in English, Made in Germany." "1/2 L" is stamped near the handle by the top rim. Thee body of the stein appears to be Mettlach. There is no lithopane. Size: 12 inches tall. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $40.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.
