German Military Stein with Portrait of Paul von Hindenburg

A very fine and handsome unusual German military stein with a large portrait of Field Marshall Paul von Hindenburg in the middle of a trophy of arms with German National color flags, over an Iron Cross. This is apparently a transfer, with no added painted details, but is very finely done, and the stein itself has painted bands in red and black. The handle has a smooth inside, and is topped by an ornate pewter finial. The lid is pewter, with a German eagle on its top. Towards the top of the body of the stein is the name Georg Striegl. The stein has a lithopane of a German soldier being greeted by a woman in an apron with a basket on her arm. There are no marks on the bottom. I suspect that this is just post-WWI, since there is no crown, and the flag is the tri color not the war flag. Size: 10 3/4 inches tall. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $40.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.

Provenance:BKP

Condition:

Excellent condition. There are two very thin hairline cracks in the lithopane, but they do not affect the solidity of the piece at all.
