French "L'IDEAL St. Etienne Shotgun with Gold Enhanced Engraving.

An incomplete and non-functioning French L'Ideal 12 gauge double barreled shotgun manufactured at St. Etienne. Part of the breech has been broken off or removed so it cannot be fired. There is no obvious opening lever. It is nonetheless a very high-grade gun with deep blue, and fine gold inlaid engraving on the breech, action, and trigger guard. The trigger guard is very unusual, having two openings for triggers. Size: 46 inches long overall, with the barrels being 30 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.

Provenance:Goetz collection Fair Oaks California .

Condition:

The metal, other than the area of the breech that has been damaged, is excellent. The engraving is simple but elegant. The blue finish on the breech is still bright, as is the gold inlay in the engraving. The butt stock has been stripped of finish, and has an empty slot near the toe of the breech, possibly for a retractable sling. The plastic butt plate has been damaged, as has the wood at the toe of the butt. The forend, however, is excellent, and has not been stripped. The bores are very good.
