Ethiopian Amharic Shield

A very handsome Ethiopian shield of the Amharic people, of Target form with a single handle on the reverse. The shield is of hand forged iron mounted on wood, with hand-woven fabric between the iron bands. It is clearly Ethiopian made, dating from no later than 1870. The Amharic people of Ethiopia are the ancient people once ruled by the Queen of Sheba, and from whom the Emperor Haillie Selassie was descended. Size: 12 1/2 inches across, and 2 1/2 inches deep. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $50.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

The shield is very solid, but the iron is rusted overall. The fabric is faded on the front, but is more visible on the reverse. There is some fraying to the fabric on the reverse. The grip is braided leather, and is quite solid.
