Incredibly nice and sharp carte de visite photo of a young Union Sergeant, wearing the 9-button frock coat and pale, possibly cavalry sergeant's stripes. He is seated in a chair in front of a painted backdrop of classical pillars. His arm is resting on a table next to his 1858 style forage cap. The image was made by A.D. Lytle in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Lytle began business in Baton Rouge in 1862, and is one of the most influential early photographers of the region. Size: 3 7/8 by 2 3/8 inches.
