Venora Silas (b. 1967, Laguna Pueblo) Hopi-Tewa Pot
A Hopi-Tewa pot by Venora Silas (b. 1967, Laguna Pueblo). The pot has a wide body with a slightly flared rim that tapers down to the base. It is decorated in bird, water, and agriculture motifs, as well as intricate crosshatching and herringbone patterns. Signed on the underside, "Venora Silas, Hopi/Tewa."
Venora Silas is of Laguna Pueblo and Hopi-Tewa heritage and a member of the Parrot and Kachina clans. She learned pottery fundamentals from her mother Roberta Silas, and though though not as widely known as her contemporaries, is part of the strong lineage of Hopi-Tewa artists who have preserved and evolved their community's ceramic traditions.
