U.S. Model 1860 Cavalry Saber Sword & Scabbard, 1865 by Roby of Chelmsford, Mass

A very nice Civil War dated Model 1860 Cavalry Saber by C. Roby, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, dated 1865. The saber has clear markings on the ricasso, and retains its original leather and wire wrap on the grip. With the 1865 date the saber was almost certainly issued during the Indian Wars as well as the Civil War. Size: 42 ΒΌ inches long overall, with a 35 inch blade. Processing and shipping within the continental US $65 plus a 1.5% replacement cost insurance fee. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.

Condition:

Very good overall condition. The blade retains most of its bright factory polish, with two minor rust spots. The grip and its wire appear original. There are minor scuff marks on the leather by the guard, and one further up the grip, but the leather is intact. The brass guard is very good, but the outermost bar is very slightly bent. The scabbard is lightly rusted overall, but a blued or blackened finish is visible under the light rust. The blade is straight and tight to the hilt, with no wiggle at all.
