Two Fine Decorative Lidded Steins, One Oak, the other Ceramic

Two extremely handsome stein with hinged lids: An American made oak stein with quadruple plated pewter lid, base, handle and flowering vines that spiral around the stein's body. It is marked inside the lid by the St. Louis Silver Company, and may have been made for one of the area's German societies. The inside is entirely lined with quadruple silver plated pewter. The second stein is a large but classic German design brightly colored ceramic stein with scenes of Bavarian dressed hunters, a barmaid, and a dog, as well as scenes of the countryside. It has two German mottoes on it: "Sprich was wahr ist Lieb was rur ist," and " Trink was klar ist, Ib was gar ist." They translate as "Speak what is true, and Drink what is clear, eat what is ready." Size: The wooden stein is 11 inches tall and 5 1/4 inches across the base. The ceramic stein is 13 inches tall and 5 1/4 inches across the base.

Condition:

Excellent. Both steins have pewter lids and fittings that are slightly tarnished or oxidized.
