Surveyor's Transit by Keuffel & Esser in Wooden Box

A very fine surveyor's transit, complete and operational, in its original wooden box, by the famed firm of Keuffel & Esser, No. 5060F, serial number 61053. Keuffel and Esser, founded in 1867 was the first American manufacturer of quality surveying instruments, and were in operation until 1987. This is a very fine instrument, made largely of brass. It was last serviced in 1981, and probably dates from the 1920s. It is in its original oak box, with a plumb bob in a leather holder on the door. It has two brass latches. The box is bound in brass. The inside of the door holds the original Keuffel & Esser label, as well as a tag from its last service. Size: Box is 15 1/4 by 12 3/4 by 8 1/2 inches. The transit is 14 inches tall on its base. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $75.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.

Condition:

The transit is in excellent condition, with only the very smallest amount of paint rubbing. The box is aged, with some serious wear at the edges, some minor losses, and a broken leather strap. The rubber feet for the box are intact.
