“Sioux Home” Native American Photo by Carl Rau, 1897 & More.

A very fine print of a Carl Rau photo of a Sioux tepee with two Sioux seated in front of it, labeled as being A Sioux Home Sisseton Reservation, So. Dakota.” It appears to be directly signed on the print, “Carl Rau 97.”  Carl Rau was a German born American photographer who died in 1940. A photo of a mounted Native American, a Plains Indian, with feathered War bonnet, in front of a tepee, with a British flag on a pole behind it. There are other horses in the background. The photo has the name “W.A. Akin” on the back. Dimensions: The Rau image is 9 by 12 inches on its matte, The Akin photo is 7 ½ by9 3/8 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

Both photos are excellent. The Akin photo is not matted, so its edges are slightly dented. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
