Reverse Glass Painted Scene of Workers Picking Grapes, Italy circa 1780

A scene of workers picking grapes in a vineyard, circa 1780, probably Italian, reverse painted on glass with children and a dog. The background of sky, forest and rolling trees is not painted on the glass, but is truly a background for the painting. The painting retains vibrant colors and is finely detailed, although the faces are all in black. The frame is walnut with a gilt edge inside the wood. 13 1/2 by 15 3/4 by 1 inches. Provenance: Estate of General Joseph McNarney. Processing and shipping in the Continental United States is $45.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost shipping.

There is very faint staining in the upper left background of the painting. There is a repaired crack in the lower edge of the frame.
