Kentucky style Percussion Fowler Musket by Griffith

A superb American Kentucky style percussion fowler by Griffith Warranted. This could be one of two gunmakers: either Joseph Griffith of Louisville, Kentucky, or John Griffith of Cincinnati, Ohio. Based on the outstanding early Kentucky style, it is more likely to be Joseph Griffith of Louisville. The fowler has a full-length tiger striped stock, with a slight droop to the butt. There is a handsome brass patch box, and the gun has brass mounts, including a long brass plate under the rear of the forend. There are also oval brass escutcheons for the pins that hold the stock. The lock is a single screw lock, with no half cock, and is marked Griffith Warranted. The barrel is unmarked, and is half octagonal, half round. The barrel has a drum bolster, but appears to have been made in percussion. The barrel has open iron buckhorn sights with a simple blade at the muzzle. The bore is about .70caliber, or 10 gauge. Size: 50 inches long overall, with a 34 inch barrel. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.
