German Dragoon Carbine with Mauser 1871 Action & French Barrel with french barrel

This is an unusual carbine with a stock, mounts, and action from a German Model 1871 Dragoon Carbine, but a barrel from a French military carbine, chambered in a smaller caliber, possibly .22. The carbine has the German dragoon saddle ring attached to the lower barrel band, and is marked k Mod. 71 on the breech, and the dates 1876 and 1877 stamped on the other side of the action. The serial numbers of the breech and the bolt are matching: 644. On the breech end of the barrel is engraved S.F.E.T. St. Denis. This is a very interesting combination weapon about which a number of writers have differing opinions, including that this was intended as a parlor rifle, which seems unlikely as the chamber itself has apparently not been altered. Others have speculated that this was one of the weapons converted for the Uruguayans under the Dovitiis order. Both seem unlikely. Size: 41 inches long overall with a 21 1/2 inch barrel. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.

Provenance:Goetz collection Fair Oaks California.

Condition:

The action has acquired some old grease and rust staining, but the metal appears to be very good underneath the accumulation. The carbine is otherwise in very good plus condition, and the action is internally excellent.
