German Franco-Prussian War era Seitengewehr Sword & Scabbard

An interesting Franco-Prussian War side-arm short sword of bayonet form, with a yataghan blade, brass grip similar to a Mauser 1871 bayonet grip, but without slot, and steel crossguard, in a brass mounted leather scabbard. The blade is marked by Alexander Coppel with his scales logo on the ricasso. The crossguard is stamped “4 AGRJ.” The crossguard is mounted backwards for most issues. Dimensions: 27.5 inches long overall. The blade is 22.5 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $45.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. 

Condition:

Very good overall condition. The blade is grey overall, with a few minor spots of black rust. The hilt is excellent. The scabbard is very fine, although the drag is loose. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
