German Bavarian 2nd Infantry Regt. Kronprinz 1912 - 1914 Stein

Exceptionally nice original German stein to the Bavarian 2nd Infantry Regiment, Kronprinz or Crown Prince, from Munchen (Munich). It is absolutely superb, with lots of hand-painted details, including a portrait of the Crown Prince, a Bavarian coat of arms, the regiment's shoulder tab, and of particular interest, a painting showing a soldier of the Regiment in peace-time blue uniform shaking hands with a soldier of the Regiment is feldgrau marching order. The stein was made for Reservist Markus Wierer whose initial service was 1912 - 1914 in I Company. The decoration includes added gold paint, and many added painted details. The handle, which is smooth on the inside, has a pewter hinge with the Bavarian crowned lion holding a Bavarian shield. The lid has an infantryman standing with rifle next to a Bavarian lion. There is no lithopane. Although the bottom is unmarked, I strongly suspect that the stein is Mettlach. The stein is stamped .5 L near the handle. The workmanship on this stein is among the best I have ever seen, and this is to an elite Infantry Regiment. Size: 11 3/4 inches tall. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $40.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.

Provenance:PKO

Condition:

Excellent plus, with minor patination to the outside of the lid and its figure. There is a small casting flaw where the pewter of the hinge joins the lid. This same area is pulling apart, this can be seen on the inside.
