General Anthony McAuliffe Collection of day-of-issue postmarked US stamps

A copy of General McAuliffe’s Christmas Eve, 1944 address to his troops in besieged Bastogne, including the letter he received from the German commander demanding his surrender, and his famous reply, “Nuts!” This is printed on parchment-like paper, and has the 1972 Christmas stamp postmarked Washington D.C., Nov. 9, 1972. This is accompanied by 6 other first-day-of-issue stamps on postmarked documents. Also in this grouping are similar first day postmarked stamps for Christmas, 1968 including a poem by Astronaut Frank Borman, the Apollo 8 stamp and the 1972 Christmas stamp, postmarked Nov. 9, 1972; a United Nations stamp for Nuclear Non-Proliferation postmarked United Nations, New York, Feb. 14, 1972; a copy of President Eisenhower’s second Inaugural Address with the Dwight David Eisenhower stamp postmarked Abilene, Kansas, Oct. 14, 1969, its first day of issue; a parchment-like copy of Eisenhower’s address to his troops on D-Day, with his stamp, postmarked Abilene, Kansas, on Oct. 14, 1969, its first day of issue; and a copy of Eisenhower’s address to his troops on Dec. 22, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, a copy of his official dispatch from SHAEF Headquarters, with an Eisenhower stamp, postmarked Oct. 14, 1969, its first day of issue; and a copy of Eisenhower’s first Inaugural Address with the Eisenhower stamp, postmarked Abilene, Kansas, Oct. 14, 1969, its first day of issue.
