An Acoma Pueblo pot by Beverly Davis Garcia (20th-century). The pot is a shouldered jar that swells near the middle with a narrow neck and base, decorated in a bird motif, possibly a parrot or macaw, and other symbolic natural and geometric motifs. It is signed "B. Garcia / Acoma, N.M." The closest match to this signature points to Beverly Davis Garcia, who though not as widely known as her contemporaries, is a part of the strong lineage of potters who have preserved and evolved their community's ceramic traditions. Her work reflects the unique culture and tribal affiliations of the Acoma people.
