19th Century Mixed Metal Aesthetic Movement Candlestick
Handsome multi-colored bronze candlestick with three candle holders. The three candle holders are at the top, with a circular main body in bronze and gilt repousse showing a heron with a snake around its beak. There is pierced decoration around 2/3rds of the circular body. The legs have highly stylized dolphin feet, and a pierced bracket between the legs and the body. Above the body rises a tapering cylinder of pierced bronze that rises to a bracket that holds the two outermost candle holders, which are on square bases with ivy leaf shaped extensions at the corners/ The cylinder continues to rise to support the top-most candle holder, which also has a square base with ivy ends. The reverse of the candlestick has a plain disc on the body, and less decoration on the bottom bracket. Size: 18 3/4 inches tall and 12 inches wide at the upper bracket.
