Whitney Safety Firearms Company 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun

A Whitney Safety Firearms Company double barreled hammerless 12 gauge shotgun, made in Florence, South Carolina between 1887 and 1895, serial number 549. This is an example of the only gun made by this company, with its innovative trigger guard safety. It is a massive, well-made gun, but has had a number of repairs and additions, including a crudely checkered pistol grip. There is an added screw on the tang of the trigger guard, and a bolt added to the front of the trigger guard. The barrel is damascus. Size: 49 inches long overall, with a 32 inch barrel. Condition:

The metal is dark with areas of light rust. The damascus pattern is difficult to see in places. The stock is missing some small areas of wood where it connects with the action. There is solder underneath the forend. The stock is dirty, with areas that have been sanded. The bores are good.
