US Model 1906 Experimental Cavalry Saber & Scabbard

A scarce experimental Model 1906 Cvalry Saber with its quite rare scabbard. The sword is stamped A.S. & Co. over the Ordnance bomb and the date 1906 on one side of the ricasso and U.S. on the other side. The hilt includes a blued steel guard with a very fine sharkskin wrapped grip with integral pistol pommel, and triple wire wrap on top of the sharkskin. The blade is quite light and smaller than earlier swords, with a single fuller. The scabbard is wood wrapped in brown leather, with a steel throat and a steel middle ring mount. The drag is missing and the blade protrudes. Despite the minor loss, this scabbard is rarely seen, and this one is remarkably intact. Dimensions: The sword is 38 inches long overall in its scabbard, with a 32 inch blade. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

The sword is excellent, with the blade being largely in its original polish with very strong marks. The hilt is excellent, retaining most of its original blue finish, and the grip is excellent. The scabbard is worn, and the leather covering is wrinkled and stained. There is no drag, and the wood of the scabbard is showing at the tip.
