“It is deeply humiliating to be compelled to state that this sin has entirely over run the state and so completely has it taken possession of the people that one hardly knows whether to give the palm to gambling or to swearing wherever a person goes. It is all one, the stage or the steamer the hotel or the street, the kitchen, the parlor or dinner table the shop or the saloon every place of amusement all resound with blasphemy, and that too of the most horrid kind”
