Six cased tintype and ambrotype portraits

Superb ruby ambrotype portrait of a man and wife, the man seated, his wife standing next to him displaying her wedding ring. They are very well-dressed, with the man wearing a flowered velvet vest, and the woman wearing a dress with a matched cape., and a gold painted brooch at her throat. The image is exceptionally sharp and clear, and is in a leatherette case with a plain god colored matte. The image measures 2 ½ by 3 inches. Tintype portrait of a mother and daughter, the mother in mourning, with gold painted necklace, earrings, and wedding ring, the daughter with a gold painted necklace. The image is clear but grey overall. It is in a gold matte in a leatherette case with the velvet pad cropped to advertise “J.H. Whiteman Galleries, New York, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Richmond, Norfolk, Petersburg & Lynchburg.” The image measures 2 ½ by 3 inches. Tintype portrait of a young man in a superb patriotic matte. The young man is in civilian clothes, but the matte has two American flags, “Pluribus Unum,” a spread-winged eagle at the top and a cannon at the bottom. The image is extremely sharp and clear, and the matte is excellent. They are in a leatherette case with a separated hinge. The image measures 2 5/8 by 3 1/8 inches. There is a revenue stamp on the reverse of the image. Tintype portrait of a woman in a mother-of-pearl inlaid book style case. The image is remarkably clear and sharp and the woman is wearing a print dress, has her hand resting on a book, and is wearing a ring on her little finger. The image is in a gold colored matte, and measures 2 5/8 by 3 1/8 inches. Exceptional ruby ambrotype portrait of a husband and wife, the husband wearing a beard with no moustache, and his wife may be in mourning. The image is in an extremely nice gold colored matte in a leatherette case with a separated hinge. The pad advertises Schoonmaker’s studio on River St. in Troy, N.Y. The image measures 2 ½ by 3 inches, and is of exceptional clarity. Exceptional ruby ambrotype portrait of a boy in a dress, but with a military belt at his waist. There is a slip of paper inside the case identifying him as Edwin P. Capen. The image is in a half case of leatherette, and a very rich but plain gold colored matte. It measures 2 5/8 by 3 1/8 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $35.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

Generally excellent, with cases as described. The image of the mother and daughter is faded with a grey tone. The other images are excellent.
