Seven late 19th to early 20th century diaries by Charles J. Brown of Byfield, Massachusetts. According to the entries, Brown was a farmer and consistently recorded the weather and day's tasks. Some notable events mentioned include Halley's Comet, a severe storm that was the worst of its time in 40 years, a large loss of life and destroyed vessels across three states from another storm, and the 1898 Declaration of War between the United States and Spain. He also writes of personal events, such as periods of illness, the birth and death or family members, and other events they attend. Journal years are 1859, 1874-76, 1896, 1897, 1898, 1900, and 1910, when the last entries appear to track the end of Brown's life.
