Orders, Medals and Decorations of Major Charles E. Williams, McNarney's Son-in-Law and Aide de Camp

The orders and decorations of Major Charles E Williams of Purdue University, who enlisted in 1942, was commissioned as a Pilot in the US Army Air Corps in 1943, was assigned to the US 12th Air Force in North Africa and Italy, and then became Aide de Camp to General McNarney. He met and eventually married General McNarney's daughter, Betty Jo during the Occupation, and they were married in Bad-Homburg in 1946. During and after WWII Major Williams was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Bronze Star, the ETO Campaign Medal, the Occupation Medal, The Belgian Order of the Crown, Commander's class, the Belgian Order of Leopold, Chevalier, the Belgian Croix de Guerre, The Luxembourg Croix de Guerre. The Italian Order of the Crown of Italy, and the French Legion of Honor. Major Williams' medals in this lot include: Distinguished Flying Cross with original 12th Air Force Citation. Bronze Star in its original WWI Case (There is a photo included showing General McNarney awarding Major William this medal) Air Medal in original WWII case. Belgian Order of the Crown breast star in original case. Belgian Order of Leopold, Chevalier, in its original case. Belgian WWII Croix de Guerre in the case of Major Williams French Legion of Honor. Czechoslovakian WWII Croix de Guerre. Luxembourg 1940 Croix de Guerre. None of these medals is named, but there are award documents for the Luxembourg award, the Belgian awards, and multiple award documents for the American Distinguished Flying Cross.There is a "permission to wear" document for the Belgian awards. There is also an award document for the Italian Order of the Crown, plus a photo of Williams being awarded it by King Umberto of Italy. Also with the group are Williams' certificate of graduation from flight school in Arizona, his yearbook from his flight school class, and his US Army Discharge. There are also several framed photos: Williams being awarded the Italian Crown Order by King Umberto. Williams being awarded the US Bronze Star by General McNarney. A signed and personalized photo of Lt. General Cannon of the 12th Air Force. A signed and personalized photo of General Lemnitzer, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Size: 18 by 15 by 12 inches. Condition:

Condition varies. Several cases for medals or decorations are slightly damaged. The orders and medals are all excellent, with the exception of the breast star for the Belgian Order of the Crown, which has chips and missing enamel on the arms of the star. The framed items are all excellent. Some of the accompanying paper work shows age, and minor damage. The permission to wear document for the Belgian Orders is in pieces, but is quite legible.
