Navy Officer Tintype with 1863 Paraguay Real Note

A very nice small grouping of Navy Engineer Francis J. Lovering, Engineer of the US Ironclad Monitor USS Nahant. He served in the Navy from 1857 to 1865. The image is oval, and is glued to a piece of note paper saying that the image was taken in 1862, and that in 1863 he was Chief Engineer of the USS Nahant, a Passaic class Monitor, and that he had collected the attached Paraguayan 1 real note in 1861. The Nahant served extensively during the War, including the Navy’s first attack on Charleston Harbor, and most notably in the battle against the ram CSS Atlanta in which the Nahant and her sister ship the USS Weehawken fought and defeated the Atlanta and three Confederate escort ships, capturing the Atlanta.  Attached to the reverse of the note are two tickets for a steamboat excursion of the 74th New York Regiment on July 4th, 1860. The note is attached to the bottom of the paper. All are contained in an acid free sleeve. Dimensions: All three items are glued together, and as such are 8 inches wide by 7 inches tall. The tintype of Lovering is 2.25 inches high. The bank note is 6.25 by 4 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
