This piece is attributed to J.B. Luchsinger & Son, San Francisco, CA (1864-1887). This firm was known in 19th century San Francisco for "first class custom furniture". The founder, John B. Luchsinger (1826-1889), learned his trade in Switzerland before moving to the United States. This company furnished many public buildings, banks and private residences on the Pacific coast. They were awarded a first premium for their display of California manufactured furniture at the 1877 Mechanics Institute. Their advertisements commit to "all kinds of artistic furniture."
