Military Archive of Marjorie Barnard

Marjorie L. Barnard enlisted in the navy WAVEs December 1944 and specialized in physical education. She served stateside at Naval Air Station, San Diego. She was honorably discharged from naval service in June 1946 as a seman 1st class. This grouping includes her waves uniform (coat, jacket, skirt, shirt, tie), A small bag of spare pins and patches, A photo album from her time in the service, several waves pamphlets, a waves issued new testament, and her discharge papers. Marge thought very fondly of her WW2 service and in her old age wrote a short memoir of her time, this lot includes a copy.

After WWII Mrs. Barnard was not done with the military. She joined the USO and spent many years at the Golden Wheel Service Club on the Turley Barracks in Mannheim Germany. The second half of this group is from that time. The foot locker that the entire archive is in is from her army service club days. In addition to the Footlocker, the archive also has: her Army Service Club uniform (jacket, shirt, skirt, garrison cap), playing cards, a Diary and letters from her time in Germany, a drawing likely done for her by a soldier, a USO show advertisement, and her passport among several other documents.
