Military Archive of Col. Walter W. Jackson

Colonel Walter Jackson was a 3 war veteran (WWII, Korea, Vietnam). He was a Naval aviator in WW2, this group includes a 10" x 8" photo of him with his corsair. The corsair photo and some of the ribbon bars are the only ww2 items in the group. At some point he switched to the army. The group includes a plaque, custom match book, and a group photo from when he was in the 36th trans Co., 54th trans Bn., 7th army. They were the flying bulldogs. The unit was short lived but very well regarded for professionalism and unit pride in its time. The plaque has a painting of the flying bulldog surrounded by the names of the unit's officers and warrant officers. The 36th was stationed in Hanau, Germany in Nov 1957 where they primarily flew the H-34 Choctaw. The unit was inactivated in 1963. The group includes a german made desk name plate from when he was a Lieutenant colonel. Finaly the group includes his private tailored uniform (Jacket, tie, pants & belt, and hat in carrying case) commissioned June 28 1968 when he was a Lieutenant colonel, it was later updated to be full Colonel. It is unknown exactly what he did in Vietnam. But judging by the uniform, he did remain in transport. Just with a different unit than the one that was dissolved in 1963.
