Maynard & Veronica Navasie (20th-century) Contemporary Hopi Style Pot
A Hopi style pot by Maynard & Veronica Navasie. The pot had a broad, low profile with a wide shoulder and slightly raised neck. It is decorated in abstract geometric and fine line symbolic motifs ranging in red and black pigments. The pot is signed on the underside by "M.N. & V.N." above a frog illustration, the signature of husband and wife duo Maynard & Veronica Navasie. Maynard Navasie (1945-2003) was born to Joy Navasie, a renowned Hopi potter famously known as "the second Frog Woman" after her mother the first Frog Woman. With his wife Veronica, the duo have carried on the traditions and practices of Hopi whiteware pottery and signed every piece with their initials and the family crest of a frog.
