Kriegsmarine S-boat Badge First Type (Schwerin)

Kriegsmarine (Navy) First Type "Schnellboot-Kriegsabzeichen (S-Boat Badge). Maker marked "Schwerin, Berlin 68". The badge has the small loop hook at the top of the reverse, which prevented the top of the badge from tipping forward away from the pocket. It has the flat horizontal pin style with a rat tail at the end. The pin fits securely within the catch. The badge has a decent weight of 32 grams The Germans called this type of vessel an "S-Boot" from "Schnellboot" ("Fast Boat"), it was esentialy the german version of a PT boat. The badge was manufactured in two distinct patterns, the first seeing use from 30 May 1941 until January 1943. Both were designed by the respected firm of Wilhelm Peckhaus of Berlin. Condition:

Excellent example, retains nearly all gold wash on wreath and silver wash on sboat. Left (right from reverse) eagle wing has a small dent on the top.
