Knights of the Red Branch Irish Fraternal W49 Bowie Knife
A very rare Knights of the Red Branch bowie knife and sheath, in the style of a Western Cutlery W49, but made by the Lilley-Ames Sword Company. Both the initials of the Knights of the Red Branch and the maker's name are engraved on the blade with a gold wash. The knife is an exact copy of the Western Cutlery W49, and it is possible that the knife was made by Western, and sold unfinished to Lilley-Ames. It has a polished wooden grip, brass guard, black leather sheath, and brightly polished blade with gold enhancements. The leather of the sheath is somewhat heavier than usually see.Size: 14 5/8 inches long with a 9 3/8 inch blade.
Knights of the Red Branch were a fraternal organization similar to, and possibly connected to the Hibernian Knights. They were particularly active in the San Francisco Bay Area, especially in the 1950s.
