Original pen and ink art by Frank Kettlewell, who worked for the Oakland Tribune from 1912 to 1966, eventually becoming art director. Subject matter is a proposal for Highway 140 from Merced to Yosemite (El Portal). Highway 140 was completed in 1926, dating this original art to a period of 1912-1926. Note the types of cars drawn motoring to Yosemite, typical of the 1910’s-1920’s. Signed in ink with bird caricature bottom left.
