Four Shorter German Steins, 3 Mattlach, 1 Glass

Four very fine shorter German steins with pewter lids: three probably Mettlach, one beautiful glass. A humorously decorated stein with cards, dice, a pretty beer maid with six steins, a black cat with a fish, a devilish-looking monkey, a pig, and a ram in the decoration. The bottom is marked 1101 Geschutz. The ceramic handle is topped by the hinge with s 7\a shield-shaped finial with a gnome with a beer stein. The pewter lid is especially nice, with the same beer maid next to a keg. Size: 6 1/2 inches tall. Blue and gray decorated stein with attractive geometric patterns. The base is stamped "Reinhold Merrelbach" over 219. The pewter hinge is topped with an acorn shaped finial. The pewter lid is plain with a beaded edge.. Size: 6 inches tall. Handsome and colorfully decorated Mettlach stein, with picture of a boyish looking monk holding a beer stein and a pretzel flanked by shields with a ram and a cat with arched back, There is a keg under his elbow, and a twin-spired church behind. A ribbon runs through the scene with the German words, "Bitter dem Mund, Dem Herzen gefund." (Bitter in the mouth, found in the heart). The pewter hinge is topped with an ornate shield shaped finial, leading to a pewter lid with a monk with stein on top. Size: 7 inches tall. Lovely glass stein with green wavy band around the swell. The glass is engraved with flowers, and is b=very fine quality. The glass handle is topped with a pewter hinge with a simple turned finial, and the pewter lid is plain.
