Dolores Lewis Garcia (b. 1938) Acoma Bowl

A traditional Acoma bowl by Dolores Lewis Garcia (b. 1938). The bowl has a wide opening and subtly inward curving rim that tapers down to the base. It is decorated in a symbolic style, formed by Lucy Lewis that she passed on to her daughters, Dolores and her sisters. The repeating motif resembles rain, clouds, or feathers often symbolizing abundance and fertility. Signed on the underside, "Dolores Lewis, Acoma, New Mexico."

Dolores Lewis Garcia (b. 1938) is a traditional Acoma Pueblo master potter known for fine-line and natural motifs ornamentation across her work. She was born into a reowned family of potters, including her mother Lucy M. Lewis, a well-known 20th-century Pueblo potter accredited for reviving many traditional Acoma designs.
