Daube & Hopken Gold Scale in Glass Case, Jersey City, NJ, ca. Early 20th Century
A well-preserved early 20th-century analytical gold scale by Daube & Hopken, Jersey City, New Jersey. This precision beam balance is housed in a polished hardwood and glass case with front-opening drawer and original weight tray. The printed label inside the drawer confirms the maker and includes original setup instructions.
Also included is a copy of a period photograph showing a nearly identical scale in use in a historic office or assay room, reinforcing its application in precious metal transactions and financial measurement.
Daube & Hopken balances were used widely in assayer’s offices, banks, and refineries—this example retains the elegance and function of turn-of-the-century American scientific design.
