Condition:

Excellent example of this scarce and desirable decoration. There are a few minor

scratches in the silver background, while the black enameled swastika is spotless! The silver wreath, dated 1941, is

excellent and lightly toned. The silver "rays" over the grey background of the cross are absolutely stunning! All of

the correct characteristics of a Zimmermann-produced piece are evidenced. The "rat tail" upsweep on the pin

(marked "20" underneath) is quite pronounced. The reverse, which has four rounded hollow rivets, is still moderately

bright and retains 98% of the finish. The black leatherette case is in very nice shape. The pebbling to the box is

slightly worn, and the area around the hinge has a small piece of the leatherette missing. The gold (all Zimmermann

cases are gold, regardless of the award) band around the sides of upper portion of the box is slightly worn as well.

There is virtually no scuffing, and the push button functions perfectly, locking the top and bottom together. The white

silk underside of the lid shows a bit of discoloration where the cross came in contact with it. The black flocking

inside the box shows minimal amount of wear to the nap, mostly where the tips of the cross have been in contact

with it for all of these years
