Bowie Knife by B.B. Mass. Maker

A very sturdy and well-made bowie knife of the Civil War era, with hard to read marks that seem to be “B.B.,” with the abbreviation “Mass.” at the bottom. The grip is stag and the cross guard is heavy German silver. The blade has a very sturdy ricasso. The sheath is brown leather with a belt attachment.  It has an old tag on it suggesting that the maker is Beaver Brook, but it is more likely that is the location. Fortunately the abbreviation for Massachusetts is clear. Dimensions: 10.75 inches long overall, with a 5.75 inch blade. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

The grip and guard are extremely good. The blade is very stout, and the sheath is quite nice. The blade has been sharpened and cleaned, but has some dark stains on it. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
