Thirteen pages from B. Picart’s “Ceremonies and religious rites of the various nations of the known world.”

These prints are from the early French edition in Picart’s native tongue and are the earliest of the print sets in this size. Later printings were published in various other European languages. These 13 pages come from this very important work, which at the time was the greatest yet created account of religious customs and rituals across the world. The majority of the pages in this grouping depict rites and rituals from Mexico, Central, and South America including some striking sacrificial images, serpents, and skeletons
