2 German Military Steins: Eisenbahn (Railway) and Luschiffer (Airship)

Two modern copies of German Bavarian military steins, one to a Railway Battalion, the other to an Airship Battalion. The former has a fine locomotive on the top of its pewter lid, while the latter has a very fine Imperial crowned eagle. The Railway stein is named to Lorenz Kirchmayer, 1906 - 1908, of the 2nd Royal Bavarian Eisenbahn (Railway) Battalion, has the winged wheel of the German Railways and a Bavarian shield at center flanked by scenes of Railway bridges and Locomotives. There are no hand-painted additions to the decoarations. It has a lithopane bottom with a seated naked woman. The handle has a raised inside center, and is topped by a pewter winged wheel, connected to the pewter lid. The bottom is unmarked. Size: 10 3/8 inches tall. The Airship stein has a wreath in the center containing a barracks building and a very nice Bavarian shield, flanked by soldiers, flanked in turn by a large barrage balloon, and an observation balloon. There are no hand-painted additions to the decorations. The lithopane depicts a topless woman being nuzzled by a soldier. The handle has the raised area in the middle as is commonly seen on reproductions. The eagle on top of the lid, while very handsome, is probably a Prussian eagle. Size: 11 inches tall.
