2 American Portrait Miniatures circa 1810, ex-Rev. Glenn Tilley Morse.

Two early American miniature portraits in matching frames, formerly in the collection of the Reverend Glenn Tilley Morse. They appear to be a couple, both dressed in styles of the early 1800's, probably about 1810. The woman is facing right, and is in a black dress, with a white collar and bonnet. The man is facing left, has a Napoleonic short hair cut, and is wearing a frock coat, white shirt and cravat. They both appear to be about 30 years of age. The paintings appear to be by the same artist. On the reverse of the woman's portrait is a note saying: "American Primitive Painting- about 1810 From the collection of Rev. Glenn Tilley Morse, son of the inventor of the telegraph. Glenn Tilley Morse was the most well-known early collector of American art. The McNarneys were fortunate enough to purchase several items from his collection, following Morse's death in 1950. Size: The paintings are the same size, each: 5 by 4 1/2 inches and 3/4 inches deep.
