18th Century Silhouette of Major General du Portail, Chief Engineer American Continental Army

An 18th century silhouette of Louis Lebeque du Portail, a French military officer, born in 1743, who served as Chief Engineer of the American Continental Army under George Washington, designed a series of forts along our Atlantic seaboard, and built the American fortifications at Yorktown, achieving the rank of Major General in 1781.This silhouette would date from 1777-1778 as it identifies him as Colonel, a rank he held only that year. The silhouette is very detailed, showing him in uniform, wearing a wig, with a lace jabot drawn in, and has "Colonel Du Portail American Army 1778" written under the image. It is in a nicely shaped wooden frame with a wooden backing.
