Overview

John A Lopes (1918-1996) was a prolific Sacramento Artist whose work was seen and admired by thousands of people, even if they didn’t know his name.  He spent over thirty years working for the Sacramento Bee Newspaper moving his way up from an illustrator to Art Director.  He would create beautiful portraits of people to be featured in the paper, from Movie and Television Stars on the cover of TV Weekly Guides to Political figures for inclusion with newspaper articles.  Mr. Lopes made use of promotional photographs sent by news outlets as inspiration to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art.  He was a thoughtful artist who could make anyone look good.
